Introducing The Seiko 5 Sports x Peanuts "Snoopy" Watches (SRPK25 & SRPK27) (2024)

When you associate Snoopy with watchmaking, you might immediately think about Omega and the Speedmaster. Obviously… But the reason why you can find the cute beagle on the dial of the most legendary space watch has actually far more to do with NASA than the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. Nevertheless, this gave birth to some of the coolest Speedies around – but also some of the least accessible. Seiko now unveils a new pair of 5 Sports models to celebrate the 55th anniversary of this accessible collection. These have been made in association with Peanuts and reference the famous comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz, including Snoopy on the dial of these SRPK25 and SRPK27.

Peanuts started in 1950 as a newspaper comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz. The strip’s original run extended from 1950 to 2000, continuing in reruns afterwards. One of the most popular and influential comic strips in history, it focuses on the life of young Charlie Brown andhis loyal dog (a beagle), Snoopy – who is often considered even more popular and iconic than the main characterCharlie Brown in some countries.

Two limited edition Seiko 5 Sports watches – SRPK25 based on the recent 38mm edition of the SKX series dive-inspired watch and SRPK27 with a compact field-inspired look – have been designed with original Peanuts illustrations on the dial and caseback, drawings selected from the same year as the launch of the Seiko 5 Sports brand in 1963. They both use the emblematic and immediately recognisable “Schulz” font, a style used by Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz. And if these are clearly inspired by the world of Snoopy, they can’t be considered an alternative to the ultra-cool Snoopy-themed Speemasters (they play in different leagues) but remain nevertheless one of the best and most accessible ways to get Snoopy on the dial of one of your watches…

The Seiko 5 Sports x Peanuts Surfboard Snoopy SRPK25

The first of the two models in this Peanuts-inspired collection is based on the recently-launched Mid-Size Seiko 5 Sports SKX Series, which we extensively reviewed here. The reference SRPK25 uses the same technical base, meaning a 38mm case in stainless steel, clearly inspired by the long-loved SKX007 dive watch, with a unidirectional bezel, crown at 4 o’clock and overall sporty specifications. Water-resistant to 100m, equipped with a Hardlex crystal and following the principles of the Seiko 5 series (explained here), it is a functional compact sports watch that can do it all. It is powered by the tried-and-tested automatic calibre 4R36, a 3Hz movement with 41h power reserve and day-date function.

What differentiates this Seiko 5 Sports x Peanuts Surfboard Snoopy SRPK25 from the rest of the collection is the design of the dial and bezel, as well as a new strap and a different caseback. The white dial with silver-toned markers and hands shows a reproduction of a 1963 drawing by Schulz, with Snoopy partially hiding behind a surfboard. The numerals on the diving scale are printed in “Schulz” font, and the caseback is illustrated with a surfing Snoopy. This edition is worn on a nylon NATO-like strap in grey and white.

Limited to 6,500 pieces, the Seiko 5 Sports x Peanuts Surfboard Snoopy SRPK25 will be priced at EUR 410.

Quick facts: 38mm x 12.1mm steel case, Hardlex crystal, unidirectional bezel with black aluminium insert, 100m water-resistant – white dial with Lumibrite – calibre 4R36, 21,600vph, 24 jewels, automatic, 41h power reserve, hours, minutes, seconds, day-date – Nylon strap – reference SRPK25K1 – limited to 6,500 pieces – EUR 410 / GBP 350

The Seiko 5 Sports x Peanuts Parachute Snoopy SRPK27

The second Peanuts-themed edition is a slightly simpler, even more compact watch based on the recent Mid-Field models, watches with a military/field inspiration and a mid-size case. This reference SRPK27 uses the same technical base: a 36.4mm case in stainless steel, a simple utilitarian look with a smooth bezel, a crown classically positioned at 3 o’clock, and robustness in mind. Fully brushed, the case is water-resistant to 100m, equipped with a Hardlex crystal and is as focused as it can be. It is also powered by the proven automatic calibre 4R36 with a day-date display.

The main specificity of this edition is on the dial. White-toned, with contrasting black elements, all the numerals on the military-inspired minute track are rendered in “Schulz” font, paired with black-toned luminous hands with a vintage vibe. This model has a slight pilot’s watch look, matching Snoopy’s helicopter-like twirling ears. The back is also customised with Snoopy and his parachute. This edition is worn on a classic black leather strap closed by a pin buckle.

Limited to 6,500 pieces, the Seiko 5 Sports x Peanuts Parachute Snoopy SRPK27 will be priced at EUR 390.

Quick facts: 36.4mm x 12.52mm steel case, Hardlex crystal, 100m water-resistant – white dial with Lumibrite – calibre 4R36, 21,600vph, 24 jewels, automatic, 41h power reserve, hours, minutes, seconds, day-date – leather strap – reference SRPK27K1 – limited to 6,500 pieces – EUR 390 / GPB 330
